IMG: Integrated Microbial Genomes

IMG/M (Nucleic Acids Research, 2008, Vol. 36, Database Issue) provides tools for analyzing the functional capability of microbial communities based on their metagenome sequence, in the context of reference isolate genomes included from the Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) system. This version of IMG/M contains all the isolate genomes from IMG 2.8 (Nucleic Acids Research, 2008, Vol. 36, Database issue) as well as genomes from the GEBA project, which provide a comprehensive context for metagenome data analysis.

IMG/M contains metagenome data generated from 65 microbial community samples that are part of 20 metagenome studies, out of which 19 are new samples and 6 are new studies.

Similar to the genomes in IMG 2.8, the functional characterization of metagenomes has been extended with KEGG Orthology (KO) terms which also serve as the main vehicle for associating IMG/M ER genomes and metagenomes with KEGG pathways. The metagenome datasets have been organized to using the classification proposed in GOLD.
