IMG: Integrated Microbial Genomes

IMG/M (Nucleic Acids Research, 2008, Vol. 36, Database Issue) provides tools for analyzing the functional capability of microbial communities based on their metagenome sequence, in the context of reference isolate genomes included from the Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) system. This version of IMG/M is based on isolate genomes of IMG 2.4, which provide a comprehensive context for metagenome data analysis.

IMG/M contains metagenome data generated from microbial community samples that have been the subject of recently published studies, including two biological phosphorous removing sludge samples, two human distal gut samples, a gutless marine worm sample , and obese and lean mouse gut samples, the single cell TM7, and termite hindgut samples. In addition, IMG/M includes three of the simulated metagenome data sets employed for benchmarking several assembly, gene prediction, and binning methods.

The IMG/M user interface has been extended with several metagenome analysis specific tools. The organization of the user interface is summarized in the IMG/M User Interface Map. For details on the analytical tools, see Using IMG/M and About IMG/M.
