The Integrated Microbial Genomes - Genome Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea Genomes (IMG/GEBA) system serves as a vehicle for the preliminary release of GEBA genomes as soon as they are submitted to Genbank. Before submission to Genbank, these genomes are first included into IMG ER (Expert Review) after being annotated using IMG ER pipeline Individual scientists or group of scientists can employ IMG/ER (img.jgi.doe.gov/er) for further annotation and curation of the GEBA genomes. GEBA genomes will be also included into the public version of IMG (img.jgi.doe.gov) via IMG regular updates.
The GEBA project aims at systematically filling the sequencing gaps along the bacterial and archaeal branches of the tree of life. The current version of IMG/GEBA contains 113 GEBA genomes out of the total number of genomes scheduled for sequencing ( GEBA Sequencing Plans ).
GEBA genomes in IMG/GEBA are integrated with all publicly available genomes in IMG 2.8 (April 2009), and therefore may have less genomes than the latest public version of IMG . Note also that, unlike in the public version of IMG, in IMG/GEBA only top homologs are provided for each gene.
